Can I keep VIP status with just half of the VIPs points?

I have a few questions and posted three threads, not to spam but to separate questions into clear threads.

My parents own 500K Wyndham developer points. They want to pass them on to my sibling and me. If I accept them, is there a way to still keep a vip status with my half? Or (not quite as good) can I achieve it by by adding resale points to my half of the points?

My ideas:

1. (Not likely) Maybe I inherit the VIP status with only 250K points, because they are VIPs.

2. If my sibling only wants 250K points, I could buy 250K resale points for him, and I would keep the original 500K developer for vip.

3. If he wants vip too, we could buy 500K resale points now in their names ahead of time, to add to their 500k developer points, and they would all be VIP points then, right? Some people mentioned that resale points after vip level are all treated as vip points. But I also read here that wyndham might make a distinction between the two kinds later and might only give vip benefits on the original developer points then. Once I have VIP and then buy resale points, which are considered vip, are they "laundered" into vip points which wyndham can't identify as resale points (under current policies)? This matters because my plan here would be to split the points 500K each when the will goes into effect.

You all know way more about this than i do. So your correction, guidance, and other ideas are welcomed.

BTW They have a 2350k point contract and 150K point contract. they said they can convert to two 250k contracts. i assume this will cost them. Is there a better/cheaper way to do it that they don't know about? (I never mentioned this website to them as they already bought their pints, and so they know nothing about doing any of this in a cheaper way.)

Resale points don’t count toward VIP but get the VIP benefits. Wyndham easily identifies which are resale and developer points.

Maybe the best thing would be to have you two as co owners and split the MF. Unless you don’t trust or get along with your brother.

Grammarhero is correct. The only way you’ll preserve VIP without an additional retail purchase is to keep the full account intact. This is especially pertinent if your parents’ purchase was prior to the last increase in VIP levels and is grandfathered gold. That’s where the real value in the account would lie.

If you have a good relationship with your sibling, I would work with them to share the account. Any resale points you add to it would currently receive whatever VIP benefits the account already has, but there’s no “laundering” - they’ll remain resale contracts regardless of how you manipulate the account in the future.

Via the other thread, OP’s parents are VIPS, so only she should inherit.

If the other sibling WANTS Wyndham points, but a smaller amount, I would try to buy them "resale" points and maybe throw them a little bonus or cash if necessary.

So we can add resale points that will enjoy benefits now, but if we split up the account later, the resale points and developer points would still be distinct from eachother. Right?

100% resale!!
If your sibling only wants 250k points, you are probably best off getting a low MF resale deed and adding it to the account and being co owners. They can cover 4 months of MF and you can cover 8 months, with you both having equal access to the discounts.

If you split up the account either each account would have only half the developer points (assuming there were to separate developer resort contracts) so neither would be vip or one would get the developer points and the other get the resale.

If you keep it all together you can each have a separate login to the same account but would be debiting from the same points pool. And making / canceling reservations from the same list of reservations. About the only thing the separate logins gives you is separate list of 'favorite' resorts.

BTW one of your questions was whether to keep the account and I would give a resounding YES, especially if you keep the gold vip.

PS if you keep the account together its one more reason to maybe schedule a trip together once in a while .. its always good to keep the extended families together.
