We are going to Curacao in July and will be renting a car for a week. If anyone has had any experence with the car rental companies there, I would appreciate your input. We have been to Curacao a few times before on cruise ships for the day but this will be our first time staying on the island.

Thanks

You are wise to rent a car. The taxis were hideously expensive last year. A 5 minute ride to the restaurant was always $25+. Where are you staying? if you are at Kura Hulanda on the west end, it's at least a 45 minute drive to the capital. On the other hand, it's where the most famous dive spots are.

Rent your car online before you arrive. Book from a company that has its cars at the airport. That way you don't have to pay taxi fare to your resort. Make sure that whichever company you choose opens its airport office well before your flight home. We almost missed our flight waiting to return our rental car.

Car rental w/Thrifty

We were there in Oct '10, used Thrifty for rental. They picked us up at the resort, completed rental at office and drove us back to resort at end of rental period. Car was small, gas expensive needed to see whole island and go to remote beaches.
