Any recommendations on when to book inter-island Hawaii flights to get the lowest price?

We will be back out to Oahu and Maui in April, and starting to run logistics. Going from Ko Olina to Maui Ocean Club. Likely looking at HNL to OGG, but open to also flying into Kapalua if cheaper.

Current pricing seems fair, at around $65/pp one-way. But see Hawaiian Air, Mokulele and even Southwest (new HI flights) having fair sales around $40/pp one-way. Will these come up between now and April? Southwest is new to HI, so curious also on their inter-island.

Not big savings either way...but $20-30pp for a family plus extended family can add up to a nice dinner/drinks/activity :) .

We went from OGG to KOA about 4 weeks ago, travel on a Sunday. There are fewer flights that go direct but it was worth it for us to save half a day of vacation, unless there is some other reason you want to stop through HNL. We saved on luggage by getting a Hawaiian credit card.

Southwest has no change fees, so if you travel on Southwest and have to cancel, you can always reuse those funds. And free bags. Hawaiian has a change fee, so keep that in mind.

I usually fly inter-island flights as I visit all of the islands over 4 or 5 weeks. I have found that the rates go up and not down when you wait. I check throughout the year to see if the rates lower and I’ve not seen that happen.

With increased competition with Southwest, rates have dropped. That’s a good thing.

I would look at Southwest if their schedule fits the dates and times you are flying to OGG. Keep an eye on prices as Hawaiian Air usually charges the same as Southwest prices if they have flights leaving about the same time.

I would buy interisland tickets when the prices seem reasonable and my plans are pretty firm. $65 a person for interisland flight is good in my book.

If you want to meet up, I will be at MKO when you visit. Would love to meet another tugger. Have a great vacation here and on Maui. April is a great time as most of the snowbirds are gone and the resorts are not as crowded.

Yes, $65 is reasonable for a one-way inter-island. I'll likely just grab soon, so I can pick the right flight time to allow checkout, checkin and miss traffic. Southwest appears to be the same price as Hawaiian, so might as well choose Southwest for the free bags and no cost change fees.

Happy to meet up at MKO. Will reach out in April!

This has been my limited experience. Booking in advance tends to consistently have the best rates. Thank you!
