Do they exist? How do they work? Extra fees? My family of 5 is currently searching hotels/resorts for Spring Break 2020 (3/21/-3/28) and thought there might be some AI timeshare rental options out there as an alternative? Where are they advertised? Thanks in advance.

Yes we have found may resort options via costco, apple, funjet and expedia. My question is about renting an AI timeshare unit from an owner for a week as an alternative to booking a hotel/resort stay from a 3rd party or direct with hotel.

It’s expensive! You’ll pay the rental fee PLUS AI charge per person based on 7 nights. Which could end up being another 7K. This is why most people rent my two bedroom that week at the harborside at Atlantis. Make breakfast in your room lol. I’ve looked into AI in Jamaica since my friend has a condo next door with her bf, I prefer to stay on my own and saw getaway for a few hundred bucks. Turns out they charge AI for two people if it it’s just me. Was going to cost another 3K! Not worth it for me. But a family of 5 I can see why AI is important. Other resorts have meal plans but not true AI.

Costco usually comes out a winner for all inclusive resorts. Timeshares, when factoring in AIFs, most likely will cost more than Costco Package price.

I am seeing about $100-150 per adult per night for AI charge. Kids closer to $50. If the rental fee is low enough it may be comparable to some resorts. Is your Atlantis non AI avail that week?

Yes

Most people renting may want to at least recap maint fees.

Many times COSTCO has packages that include round trip airfare, AI fees, and transportation to and from the airport.

Hi Jim,

I took a look at the TUG Marketplace and for Week 12 (March 21 - March 28, 2020) and there were a few options available for you in Mexico. These are available to rent by owners:
Royal Haciendas
Royal Sands
Westin Lagunamar
Royal Islander

I believe they are All-Inclusive (AI) optional. If I’m wrong, others will chime in.
Link to TUG Timeshare Marketplace:
https://tug2.com/timeshare-classifieds/default.aspx

Also you could post a Want To Rent ad here on TUG. In your case you would post that you want to rent by an owner a week 12 resort in the locations you wish, with the option of AI.
https://tug2.com/MarketplaceWishResults.aspx?All Rent Wish Ads&ToRent=True

If you look through some of the Mexico timeshares for rent on TUG and if it says for availability weeks 1-52, that means the owner can book floating weeks, so the owner could try and book the week 12 for you if you contacted them and asked them. It can’t hurt to ask.

Also, you can try MyResortNetwork.com or RedWeek.com

If you want AI you can search RCI and see which resorts are AI:

at Palace Resorts they incentivize owners to rent to newcomers cheaply. plus they allow owners to pass on the elite level bonuses like free cabanas , advance restaurant booking etc to their guests.
