1) Is there a vacation destination you wish to visit most of the time or on a regular basis? if so where? No, I like to travel the world right now but I'm sure as I age Hawaii would be visited on a more regular basis.

2) Do you want to visit your home resort at least half the time, or do you want to trade more than half the time? Currently I think I would trade more than half the time.

3) What are your 5 top trade destinations?
1. Hawaii
2. South of France
3. New Zealand
4. Croatia / Greece
5. Central America/Mexico

4) How many people do you usually travel with?
5
5) Can you travel any time, or are you locked into the school schedule?
I am locked into school
6) Can you make firm plans 12 or more mos. in advance?
Yes
7) Can you vacation for a full week at a time?
Yes usually between 2 and 3 weeks at a time.
8) What level of accommodations do you prefer on a scale of 1 to 5 stars?
3/4
9) How much can you afford to spend upfront, without financing?
25000
10) How much can you afford to spend every year for a maintenance fee that will come due right after Christmas, and increase each year?
1800
11) Are you a detail oriented planner?
Yes and No sometimes I'm over top other times I go with the flow.
12) Do you understand that once you buy a timeshare, it may be very difficult to sell or give away, and you are responsible for all fees, until you do?
Yes

I was looking into HGVC, just wondering everyones thoughts on where I should purchase and how many points they would recommend.

Thank you in advance.

Club Wyndham has resorts in three of the destinations you list - Mexico, Hawaii and New Zealand.

True.... but you can only book the New Zealand locations with credits purchased from the developer. And WM Hawaii is a difficult reservation to get even at 13 months out in WM, whereas it is easy to book Hawaii via Club Wyndham. OP should look at WM, but Club Wyndham checks more of the profile he lists.

I have never had a problem Booking WM in Hawaii. Plus the WM online system does not seem to be having all the problems Wyndham has. WM has has 4 Waitlist for Free, unlimited Free Guests stays, Bonus Time, Monday Madness, Inventory Specials, cancel 30 days in advance and get all your Points back, Points are good for about 25 Months from date deposited into your Account (without the Member having to take any special actions), can borrow 1 year in advance without paying any special fees, etc. It is going to be hard to get all your locations with a single system.

As you probably already know, HGVC only has resorts in HI, NZ and Mexico from your desired list. In general, HGVC is very weak on foreign soil (true HGVC foreign resorts are only in Italy, Scotland and Portugal (limited). The NZ and Mexico TS are with an affiliate, so the exchange agreement can be terminated by either party. I can not speak to the NZ affiliate but I have been to the Mexico affiliate at Fiesta Americana-Los Cabos many times. It is our favorite vacation of the year.

At least not yet however, the last 2 up dates I have done, they brag how a new reservation system is coming called “you guessed it voyager” and Wyndham already has it WorldMark is next.

This is when I inform them this would be a serious downgrade of our system, and start listing things off.. This doesn’t last long before I am off for $125 Amex Card.

The Hawaii locations are not that hard to get with a OGS. Even when first available at 13 months they are up for a bit.

If South Pacific resorts are your thing. Pick up a 6K WorldMark SP contract. These average about 60 cents a credit for a loaded account from time to time you can get them for close to .40-.45 a credit. Currently redseason and sellmytimeshare have reasonable ones listed. The later site has mostly junk listings of over priced stuff, but every now and then you will find a good one hiding in there.

Thanks for the replies, the reason I was leaning towards Hilton is you seem to lose very little by purchasing a resale unit whereas others seem to penalize you more. I will have to go back to the comparison Post and read it again.

Very true. I also like the comparison chart because I have no experience with the other TS systems. Anyways, we don't use our TS for all of our travel needs. I would find that too limiting especially with Hilton. We also use hotels, AirBnb and cruises.

Good luck and keep asking questions.

I have a few questions:
1. If you purchase a 7000 point unit and would like to stay in a unit that is 8700 points could you pay cash for the difference and not have to use future points?
2. Can someone tell me where I can find the calendar of weeks for HGVC for 2018.
3. I was just recently told from a realtor on a timeshare website that it is a waste of money to buy a resort in Hawaii if you do not plan on going there every year and I should buy in Vegas. I thought I would rather have a default of Hawaii instead of Vegas, any thoughts on this?

Thanks

Actually it depends. I assume the person was referring to the MFs for HI are higher than most other places. There are a few deals to made on the higher point counts however. But do consider the total cost of your purchase (initial + fees + yearly MFs).

Secondary/Resell Market WM Points are not eligible for WMSP. They are eligible for WM Fiji as It is a Shared Resort between WM and WMSP.

6,000 WMSP Points will not get you much. WM and WMSP Points have equal value in Booking WM and WMSP Resorts. We have traveled Down Under 3 times. It is true that we always get a 2 or 3 Bedroom Unit. But if you want to go Down Under in their Prime Season it can cost you a fair number of Points.
