All,

I am currently planning on going to Kauai in April for Jack's spring break, and have a reservation at Marriott Waiohai. We love WPORV, but I've discounted it because it's still pretty rainy on Kauai in general, and we hope the southern part of the island will be less impacted.

Has anyone been to WPORV in April and if so, did the rain impact your vacation? We don't mind 30 minute showers, but we don't want to be rained out every day. Our June experience has been short bursts of rain (10-15 minutes) followed by sunshine.

Would appreciate any personal experience with the rain -- the data reports just under 8 inches of rainfall for April versus 4.5 inches in June, when we've visited before.

Thanks very much!

Best,

Greg

I went in late April to WPORV a few years ago and it wasn't the best experience. It wasn't really the rain that was the bother, it was the clouds. It was just a lot gray. We went in mid May this year and stayed at Hanalei Bay Resort and surprisingly had more rain (including a deluge on day 2) but after that a lot of sunshine. I definitely liked Princeville better in the sunshine. On the one rainy day we had this past May, the rain lasted for the better part of the day so we just hung out on our lanai and read a book. Otherwise we didn't have much more than the passing shower, both this past May and the previously mentioned April trip.

Personally, I love Waiohai and would love to spend a week there in April.

edit - one more thing to consider, hiking on the north shore was pretty slick and muddy the whole week because of the rain. We hike a lot and this made it more adventurous and messy.

We went mid March and barely had any rain. Can't speak to April though.

We were there 2 years ago in March: 1 week in Princeville and 1 week in Poipu. It rained the entire time! Moral to the story: you never know. It's different every year.

Weather on vacation: you pays your money, you takes your chances. ;) I say go and make sure you have a few rainy-day activities up your sleeve.
