We go to the BI about 3 times a year for the last 10 yrs mostly to play golf.
Here's what works for us. Your experience may vary.

Land and get car. yea yea
Go to Harbor House or Keoni's Point of View at Honokohau Harbor for late lunch.
Pick up some fresh fish at Keoni's. (if not, then later in the week at Da Fish House at Kawaihae Harbor)
Go to Super Target for smaller items.
Go to Costco for bottled water, wine, Rum, more Rum (they carry Koloa Rum Co from Kauai), coffee, steaks and whatever else.
Drive to Bay Club. yea yea
If need more groceries later, market at Mauna Lani or Waikoloa Village both good choices. Queens Market if you need some $10 butter. (hyperbole)
Happy hour drinks: Three great options. Lava Lava, Tropics Ale House, and Mai Grille at the Kings/Beach clubhouse (very underrated happy hour with best Mai Tai IMO)
    Golf
    Golf
    More Golf
Several great places for lunch up in Waimea but often too far for a golf day. Big Island Brewhaus and The Fish and the Hog for example.

    Enjoy

A new Foodland shopping center is being built in Waikoloa Village, across the street from KTA. It will include shops and restaurants, and Ace Hardware. The lot was cleared, leveled, and ready to build in October when we were there.

We're generally not there long enough (or with enough people) to buy a CostCo amount, and we certainly wouldn't buy bottled water anywhere due to the waste, but I can see CostCo as a good option for longer trips.

We have not tried the Happy Hour at Mai Grille (haven't been there, actually, since it was Kings'; Grille), but Tropics Ale House is also a very nice happy hour option, as noted.

Also second Da Fish House as a great place to visit. We may have to check out Keoni's next time.

And, of coursse, the Sansei sushi Sunday and Monday 50% off discounts for early entry. A definite must.

    Cheers.

For grocery shopping for a stay at Waikoloa Resort, we like Foodland at the Mauna Lani and Island Gourmet at Queen's Shops. They had everything we needed and are convenient. Island Gourmet prices are higher, but the convenient location right in Waikoloa more than makes up for the prices. For greater selection, the Foodland at Mauna Lani is reasonably close. When we go back in February, those will likely be the places we shop.

    Lol.
Pueo’s Osteria, located in Waikoloa Village
Best Italian restaurant if you want “real” Italian food or seafood.

    Google it to check reviews.

I appreciate ALL of it. My only time to the Big Island was part of my honeymoon, which was 4 days at Mauna Kea. Now I can head over there and my friends will think I know what I'm doing. :)

Just returned from Pueo’s Osteria. Excellent. Great recommendation. Loved it.
