My wife and I have a five day Marriott certificate to stay in a category 1-5 hotel. I'd like to hear from the vast wisdom and experience of the TUG community on what you might consider to be the best stay option for this certificate. We were just in D.C. over Thanksgiving but at $82/night, I couldn't bring myself to use it. Taking into account location(stay in US) and price, what is your recommendation for the best use of this certificate?

I too struggled with what to do with our 7 night TP with a 1-5. Heck, I struggle even with the credit card 1-5 certs that I just need for 1 night!

I found this article earlier in the year, lots of good ideas: http://mommypoints.boardingarea.com...ott-category-1-5-properties-around-the-world/

For us..after months of searching. I finally gave up and upgraded to a category 7 and booked a 1BR at Grand Vista for a high demand week for a Tues - Tues stay. The dates I needed, but wouldn't be able to get a TS to work because of the start day.

The best value doesn't fit everyone but for me it's conventions where the rates are jacked up. The categories don't change but the rates can easily double or triple. For example my wife has a convention in Salt Lake City in September. The rate for a suite at the Courtyard downtown is $419 plus tax per night. It is only a Cat 4 so when the reservations first opened I booked two rooms for 5 nights for 80,000 points each. 80,000 points for a room that would cost $2,095 plus tax is a pretty good deal.
