Question - my kids all live in a different state. I'm taking them to Florida in December, they'll be flying out of a different airport (Philadelphia) I'm trying to decide if I am better off purchasing the tickets for them, or reimbursing them for buying them. I currently have United Card, and it looks like they are likely to fly American. I could also use my SPG (Bonvoy) Amex. Thoughts?

I buy tickets for my daughters. I usually do it because I'm either using miles for it, or I'm paying for the trip. Also, if I pay for the tickets, I get the miles on my credit card. I do double check with them before booking however just so I'm not booking at a time that doesn't work for them.

I'm glad I'm not the only one! I buy the tickets for them as we usually do travel together from NJ. This also assures that I get the best price possible for all of our tickets.

I’ve been buying tickets for my mother, sister, and MIL for years. But I use their credit card not mine.

The other thing I make sure of if I am buying the tickets for my daughters is that I have their KTN on the reservation (for TSA PreCheck) and their airline rewards number.

Personally, I'd rather have dad take care of the details...
But why not ask them? (instead of us half-wits).
They may want the miles/points or have special requests.

If you want to purchase them with one of your credit cards for points, have them make their own reservations and put them on hold. You can then follow up with payment. I've done that a couple of times.
