We just bought a 7000 point 2 BR platinum at HGVC Flamingo for $4500. Compared to the other 2 BR platinums I have seen, I thought it was a good deal (just saw one just like it get sold on eBay for $4500). What do you all think?

I think if it was resale, you did fine.

Never pay full freight for timeshares. Always buy resale. Everything else is details.

I would think at $0.64/point and MF at $0.1437/point that you should be happy. The important thing is if you are happy with the deal.

Did that include closing/transfer fees?

Thanks everybody. Makes me feel much better knowing you all think it’s a good deal. You can think your right, but still be unsure. The $4500 does not include any fees, but it would still be well under $1 per point.

Always a fun discussion, the "good deal" question.

Did others pay less for the same thing? Probably, but not substantially.

Was it worth it? That is the "Are you happy with it?" response. Is $93k for a BMW a good deal? How about $18 for a burger an fries on Waikiki beach?

If you paid $5,500 inc closing costs and your "MF" is $1,000, you paid about $230/nt for a two bedroom condo without lodging taxes and without "point stretching" techniques considered over a 10 yr interval. Certainly not bad for the quality of units HGVC offers.

You could have probably rented similar units from VRBO etc for similar nightly costs and avoided the obligation and eventual need to sell the TS but you would give up the known quantity and quality of the TS system.

So... was it a good deal? See above.

A good deal is indeed different for everyone.

Some look at price per point with the mindset all points are the same.

Some look at their age and cash outlay.

Some want a certain fixed week and do not care the point value.

Some want it for free.

Some give no thought to the price and buy with their hearts.

There are many other reasons too.

Ultimately the debate does not matter. It only matters if one is happy with their deal.

I don't disagree at all. And yet nobody comes to this forum to ask: "Am I happy with my purchase?"

Indeed happiness is the ultimate goal. I was quite pleased with a $6 polo I recently purchased from Walmart for example.

Folks come here to seek information which will validate or at least put in perspective a decision they have in some cases already made.

Overall, I am not sure I would pick up another TS, even if it was free to acquire, as the MF is about equal on a $/night basis to what I can rent condos or a house for. BUT that is partially based on my age and the fact I already own two which I will someday have to go through the hassle of selling. Plus I don't want another yearly obligation for $, time and location.

That said, I am "happy" with my timeshares. And my polo shirt.
