I still own two deeded directly bought units
from Fairfield which is now Wyndham, as we all know.
My question can 1 of these represent that I have a direct purchase from Wyndham and get the benefits of an original owner and not just a resale buyer?

If you bought direct from Fairfield, then probably yes. Are these fixed weeks or points? Deeded where (resort locations/ name)?

My parents bought into a Fairfield VIP Platinum ownership in the early '90s. Everything was grandfathered in.

Those are fixed weeks. I believe you will need to deposit those weeks into RCI and exchange the weeks to a WorldMark resort if available. You can have Wyndham convert your weeks into points, but for a price. Then you'll have access to WorldMark. Or, buy resell WorldMark points to access their inventory.

After studying this further, I decided I would be stupid to acquire points on these? Better to buy another resale Grand Desert on point basis?

It'll cost you in the neighborhood of $2k a week, or $185 a week with a purchase.
Buying resale points won't help you with accessing WorldMark... you'd need WorldMark credits.
