Flying Spirit, Frontier or Allegiant? Here are 12 things you need to know
https://www.usatoday.com/story/trav...aggage-fees-seat-fees-users-guide/1645179002/

By Dawn Gilbertson / Travel / USA Today / usatoday.com / updated Oct 22, 2018

“The fares are almost always enticing. Phoenix to Las Vegas as low as $31 one-way. Atlanta to Fort Lauderdale for $50. Denver to New York City, $59. All on nonstop flights.

Discounters Spirit, Frontier and Allegiant – ultra-low cost carriers in airline industry lingo – have long known how to grab travelers' attention.

The bare bones ticket prices, of course, don't come with much. Travelers pay extra for almost everything. The airlines used to bury the fine print on their fees but now trumpet their lack of frills, as major airlines are gradually switching to their a la carte approach.

That doesn't mean travelers are paying attention. The airlines draw plenty of social media ire from passengers unaware of their policies.

With newbies in mind, here is a traveler’s guide to flying Spirit, Frontier, and Allegiant....”

The article forgot to mention that Spirit (and possibly others) also have smaller dimension limits on baggage. So get out the tape measure and make sure the baggage size meets the limits.

That being said, I love Spirit Airlines. Even their "Bare Fare" motto is honest...they tell you right off that nothing beyond a seat is included. Anyone who doesn't like rules and fees should pay more and fly on a different airline with minimal fees.

...Anyone who doesn't like rules and fees should pay more and fly on a different airline with minimal fees....Spot on.
The issue I hate is this race to the bottom of the heap by the other airlines. Like using seat selection as a privilege with exorbitant fees, so you have to pay to sit somewhere other that a middle, all in all these "privileges" are just games used to generate cash.

We use all three. Last week I went to Florida on Frontier $35 ROUND TRIP! No luggage....but I managed to put a couple changes of clothes in my large "purse" & I stayed with my daughter and borrowed some clothes from her. We usually fly Allegiant...and if you are military (DD214...your luggage is FREE!! - Thank you Allegiant). My daughter's plans changed but she was going to bring my grandson (14 months) up to SC and she was going to pass him to me at the gate and get back on the same plane to fly home to Tampa.....for less than $110 airfare (2 round trips) she was going to have grandma babysit for the week.
