We have a trip to the BVI's planned for next May. In light of all of the tornadoes this year, it has made me think that I should be careful in choosing which city to use as a connection for our flight from the west coast. We can leave out of any of the southern CA airports but would prefer just one connection so LAX seems to be the most likely departure city. Any suggestions?

I flew into St Thomas a couple of years ago in mid May for my Tradewinds BVI sailing. We had great weather, just 2 short rain showers during the night. The Official Hurricane Season is June 1-November 30. I think the chances of running into a storm in May is lower than say September.

With regard to airports with connections, San Juan seems to have several flights throughout the day. If you happen to miss a flight you’ll have a better chance getting to St Thomas if there is more than one flight a day.

I would check out FlightAware.com and see what airlines/airports serve St Thomas.

We flew AA from San Jose to Miami and then a connecting flight to STT. AA seems to have the most flights in the Caribbean IIRC. Good luck.

Best regards.

We flew Delta from LAX last year in April. I can’t even remember where our connnecting flight was. It was a none issue except they lost my luggage.

LAX sounds like a good choice from the west coast.

Your best connection cities are Miami (AA), Charlotte (AA), New York (JetBlue, UA), Washington Dulles (UA) or Houston (UA)

Delta connects through Atlanta to STT. I assume There is direct flights from LAX to ATL.
