The staff at Wyndham Kona Hawaiian Resort was great. Towel exchanges were fast and they delivered them to the unit. We got parking pass and said no to timeshare pitch and was never asked again. Our AC broke because a gecko fried himself on the capacitor but the maintenance staff had it up and blowing cold in less than an hour. We used the pool twice the grills once and had no problems. We made 17 of our 21 meals in the kitchen and only ate out 4 times. We found the kitchen adequately stocked. I would not want to walk back to the resort at night from town. It can get pretty dark and I would be worried about getting hit by a car. During the day I thinks it’s fine.
Also note that the bedroom have one bed each. So if your bring kids they will need to share a bed. Also they have shack by check in where people leave chairs and boogie boards behind fir other guests to use. I would check there before buying anything
It really is a Big Island. I don’t think you can do it all in a week.
I would stay at Wyndham again but would probably try Waikoloa first. I care more about the better beaches than the activities and dining in Kona . In my younger years I probably would have preferred Kona.
I still prefer Maui or Kuaii but I am glad we went to the big island and would love to come back to see some lava and go up Mauna Kea.
We could not go up Mauna Kea because of the protests about building a new telescope
I'd forgotten about that strange bathroom (mostly the tub) set up in those units.
The only thing we didn't like about the units, if I remember correctly, was that you couldn't have the a/c on and the sliding doors open at the same time.
The other thing that was a little odd, but didn't bother us, was that the only dining table was outside on the lanai. Since we tend to eat all of our meals outside, that wasn't an issue.
