If you are interested in the history of the area, the Galveston Historical Foundation has the Pier 21 Theater that shows inexpensive presentations of "The Great Storm" (the 1900 hurricane) and one on the legendary pirate Jean Laffite that operated out of the island.
It is located at 21st Street and Harborside Drive on the 2nd floor, above Willie G’s.

Dagger1 covered most everything. The Lonestar Flight Museum recently moved from Galveston to Ellington Field. If you are driving up to NASA/JSC (be sure to go over to the rocket garden), Ellington is a short drive away. If you will be on the island for Easter, you might think about hitting the Galvez for their Easter brunch (suggest making reservations now as they book up in advance).

Had a good time in Galveston. Things learned. Water is dirty and opaque. So not good for scuba nor snorkle. Lots if waves with no further off shore islands. But too small for surfing. Good constant waves for boogy boards. Beaches are good for walking and bird watching. Could not fly my drone. Winds were constantly too much. Great kite breezes almost constantly. You can get great loft on several very big kites. Several stores on the beach have these.
Lots of good restaurants so great shrimp and crawfish.
