An article in today's The Points Guy newsletter indicates that renewal of Global Entry status, which one might think would be routine, can actually be a bit of a root canal. The author's husband applied for renewal two months before his GE expired and, more than 100 days later, is still waiting. To make matters worse, he has been asked to re-interview. The problem? There are no available appointment dates into 2020. Ugh.

Here's a link to the article.

Interesting article and I am sure accurate. Apparently a lot has to do with where you are trying to schedule an interview. I went through the whole process and I am thinking from beginning to end it took me about 45 days. That includes the original application which took about 15 days to process and I was able to schedule an interview within a month.

Too lazy to look it up myself, but how far ahead of Global Entry expiration can you apply to renew?

Never mind. If I'd read the article before I asked the question I would have know. You can apply up to one year ahead.

I guess I better put in my request. Does NEXUS have re-interview situations too? I was just going to review my GE as I get that refunded by my CC. I would reapply for NEXUS next time I went to Canada.

But maybe I should change that. Either way I should do it soon. My expires in April.

My next open date at the Detroit airport is mid-October. However, there is an office at the Ambassador Bridge between Detroit and Windsor, ON that has an appointment in as little as three days.

Our Global Entry status expires next year. My husband received a notice, but I did not. Anyway, he started the renewal process online and found it be quite onerous. It seems like much more information was required than before (though our memories might be failing us), and it seems weird to have start from the very beginning again. There’s no arguing about it, but geez, why can’t we just provide updates to the information provided before?

We’ve both been retired for more than 14 years, and maybe we’re just rebelling against having to dig into our old records for long forgotten information, but I guess we’ll do it. For us, interview times are about a month out, Nash that’s not too bad.
