I am looking to possibly buy a GTL timeshare and am wondering how the lottery system for booking works at that property. How restrictive is it and does this system hurt the value of this timeshare? Any other thoughts on GTL would be welcomed too. Thanks in advance for your help and insights.

I own an annual 2BR lockoff ski-week here. Basically, it seems I get my first choice of requested week every other year. We have kids in school, so need prime spring break week in March so we can go when they are off. No matter what week it is in ski season you end up getting assigned via lottery after putting in your prioritized requests, if you price it competitively it will get rented for at least to cover maintenance fees especially given how low they are at GTL (~$1k for a ski week in a 2BR that can be locked off into 2 separate units and even rented separately is a bargain for any time in ski season). Of course if you are able to secure a prime spring break week, then you can definitely rent those out for a very nice profit if you don't use it! I actually have yet to stay at GTL as I own at the newer Grand Lodge on Peak 7 where you can call in right at 12 months out to book your week.
