While traveling on Hawaiian Air during our recent vacation to the Islands, the flight crews were pushing hard on an interesting promotion of the Hawaiian Air credit card. Normally, the application includes 35,000 bonus miles, which is what you'd receive if approved and applying at a bank or online. But between now and end of June--if you're flying on Hawaiian--the flight crews have applications that will give you 60,000 bonus miles plus the miles from your trip if you fill out the application on the plane. Not a bad deal.

Since I already have the card, I couldn't take advantage, but I did grab 4 applications and would like to make them available to fellow TUGgers if you're interested. Just PM me with your mailing address and I will put the application in the mail to you.

By the way, 60,000 miles gets you a free round trip ticket from the mainland to Hawaii using the Saver fare.

I was going to post about Hawaiian Air today, hope you don’t mind if I tag on to your post. I’m flying Thursday, using miles for two saver fare award seats. We like their seating because we can get the two seats on either side, my wife likes window and I like aisle. I received an email last week with an offer to bid on first class upgrades. I wasn’t aware of this program, found it strange it would be offered to me with the milage award seats. I put in a bid, should find out today if I won, notification is 48 hrs before departure.

My sister did that on her flight to NZ. She was thrilled and thought it was a great value.

The outbound upgrade came through at noon today, I bid $480. Now I just need the return flight to come through, its a different plane, Airbus A332, I think it has the lie flat seating in first. I priced first at $1480, so thats a great bargain.

I have flown Hawaiian and really did enjoy their First Class accommodations. The service was great, and we got a great deal on First Class seats, but it's hard to get those for a good price. On the way out (this was a year ago), we had a couple in front of us that reclined their seats all the way back and went promptly to sleep. Rick had a heck of a time getting out of his window seat to go to the restroom. They wouldn't move, even when he asked the woman to please put her seat up. I climbed out of my seat, and he had to climb over my seat to get out.

From SJC to Maui, it's $555 in first each way on Alaska Airlines. Love Alaska! We always stay the night going to/from Denver-SJC, so we really make it a relaxing trip that way. My mother-in-law (Rick's stepmom) will be with us next time at 91 years old. She appreciates the relaxed flights in first to Maui. I cannot imagine flying coach, the three of us. We fly coach to SJC, stay at the Hyatt each way. The Hyatt is like 8,000 points for a night, plus we get our free night.

We could never do the red-eye flights again, after flying during the daylight hours to the coast from Maui.

Well things are falling apart, got a notification the flight was cancelled, no explanation offered. They offered to switch us through Maui with a 6 hr layover, when I objected they switched us to a direct flight on UA. Leaves a few hours later but at least its direct.
