For the first time I face the possibility of not being able to go to HHV next year...I will know one way or the other by the end of this year. As I read the 2019 Club Reference (and TUG HGVC sticky), if I make a home week reservation for summer 2020 and cancel it in late 2019 I can still bank those 2020 points into 2021 (though obviously I can't make a 'home resort' reservation in 2021 using those points).

Is this true? Has anyone here done this? TIA

Of course you can, it's well within the rules to cancel a home week res and get your points back.

There is no rush to SAVE the 2020 points, you will have until Dec 2020. Maybe a short trip locally will appeal to you.

If you are asking about CONVERT to HHonors, then you would need to cancel before Dec 31, 2019 in order to get the best conversion ratio.

HGV does not use the word "BANK"

I had a May Club res for this year, couldn't go, moved it to Oct then realized still couldn't go. Still have plenty of time to use the points.

As long as you cancel your reservation more than 30 days from check in, you will be able to recover all of those points and then save them into the following year if you wish.
