How much are transfer fees roughly for the paperwork to give the timeshare away? And how do you know what company to use?

2nd and 3rd on LT Transfers.
They will guide you thru the process.

@SmithOp was very correct, but maybe understated: the location of the timeshare can be a big deal with INTL timeshares or Hawaii etc...in determining closing costs.
If it's the Berkshires.....not so much.

Most people give away timeshares with the buyer paying for the closing. If it’s a difficult to get rid of week, you can offer to pay closing or split costs with buyer. If it’s really a lousy week you may have to offer free usage to get a taker. You can email LT transfers and they will give you a quote on closing cost so you can list it in your bargain ad. Good luck!

It depends on the resort. Some have specific amounts and others the price of a transfer fee (maybe 2,5, or 10x the MF).

We have sold a few on eBay and the people paid the cost of the transfer. We contacted the resort and found that it is not always necessary to involve a closing company. They sent a simple form and we filled it out with the information for the new owner and the resort changed the name on the contract upon receiving the transfer amount.

With 2 of our resales, the people paid us the amount and we hen filled out the transfer papers and sent a check for the amount of the transfer fee and it worked fine. These were resales we had purchased on eBay and used a few years for exchanges and were not looking to get anything out of them. It worked for us.

Closing through LT is usually less than $200. However the resort has their fees as well. HGVC is nearly 1k while Vistana is $25. I believe Marriott is $95.
