How to Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth? Embark on a Paris Croissant Crawl for Pastry Lovers

"A typical breakfast in Paris is simple, consisting of coffee, fresh-squeezed orange juice and a light and airy croissant. Enjoying one of the flaky, golden crescents made of butter, flour and sugar is one of the great joys of any trip to the City of Light.

That’s why it comes as a surprise when Christophe Vasseur, owner of beloved Parisian bakery Du Pain et Des Idées, says only 15 percent of croissants found in France today are homemade. The majority are industrially manufactured.

But this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t enjoy croissants when in Paris; you just need to know where to go...."

Have you ever had the croissants in the frozen section of Trader Joes? They come in a little box of 4. You have to put them on a cookie sheet the night before. They will have to "proof" overnight. The next morning they quadruple in size. Put them in the oven for about 8 minutes and i guarantee your house will smell like Paris. The chocolate croissants immediate take me back to Paris. Truely!

For Parisian pastries, I go to a neighborhood bakery, the "Upper Crust."
There, you can see 'em come out of the ovens. It saves on airfare.
