I am looking at an odd year for about 1k and wanted to know what others thought about this as an option to stay (2000 point) and trade. The buy i seems reasonable and 2000 points should get you in to most other Hyatts. Will use primarily as a trader but we have family there so I can see us using it once or twice over the years.

It has high maintenance fees for a trader. It is also still under reconstruction after the hurricane that devastated the island (with the opening being delayed multiple times now). There was also defferred maintenance and upgrades that should have been done years prior to the storm. Though Hyatt has never had a special assessment in their history, it is possible there may be one for Hacienda Del Mar owners. Here's the rub... This property could be one of the crown jewels in the Hyatt system. The big question on everyone's mind is HOW they are going to go about rebuilding the property. Will they rebuild it into the crown jewel it deserves to be, or will they do a patch job with some basic upgrades "lipstick on a pig" so to speak.

At this point in time, wether it is worth the price you are talking about is up to you. My guess is today, right now, Hyatt would not take an EOY 2000 pt unit in ROFR even if it were free.

What I'm seeing on the resale sites are MF between $1500-!600. I'm considering it because of the 2000 points and low buy in. The EOY works for me. From what I gather 2000 points is a good start. I understand that there is some risk but the gamble could payoff and the outlay isn't huge. If I can get in the high end Hyatts in high season I think it would be worth it. Also a one BR trade can work for me. Any insights on how this would trade to other higher end Hyatts?

I seem to remember them being a little higher... closer to $1700-1800... but that could be bad memory.

Points are points, if you have enough, and there is availability, then you can have it.
