We are heading to Los Cabos the end of May and I am hoping that Uber is available there. I used it a lot in Puerto Vallarta this winter.
Thanks for any info that you can share about transportation there.

Good luck. The taxi Union is pretty powerful there. I hope Uber drivers are good swimmers.

Los Cabos is a big area with 2 main towns that are about 20 miles apart - Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. Most people when they talk about Los Cabos are thinking about Cabo San Lucas. It is the larger town and the one cruise ships pull into.

I just got back from Cabo, I took Uber to Costco and Walmart. Taxi and Hotels are partner together, so Uber can only drive you up to the gate. They can't come inside. Uber about 40% cheaper. I took a cab to Costco it was $10, on the way back we took uber for $6.

Uber is definitely up and running, but the taxi union isn't happy about it. The governor ruled that Uber can legally operate in the state, but local authorities, pressured by the taxi union, hadn't given their blessing as of early April. We saw police stop some Uber drivers (with passengers in their cars, who had to get out) while we were there in March/April. We couldn't tell what the infractions were for getting pulled over, and the passengers didn't know either. The rules about pickup and drop off points are definitely skewed for taxis.

Uber has promised to pay any fines the drivers get for operating in Cabo, so people are willing to give it a try to earn some extra money. I hope things settle down. Most reports on using Uber in the area have been VERY positive! Taxis are ridiculously expensive in the area.

The latest from Gringo Gazette (https://www.gringogazette.com/) on Uber happenings in Cabo:

"The city of Los Cabos has made another assault against Uber, this time raising the fine to $1250 USD for picking people up. The company Uber pays the fines.

Every other city in the state gets to enjoy Uber, thumbing their nose at the thieving taxi drivers, but because our mayor is in the employ of the taxi union, we have to suffer.

In retaliation for the latest attempt by the mayor to protect the taxis, the Uber drivers staged a quiet protest. 20 Uber drivers drove around honking their horns Well, maybe it wasn't that quite a protest. Uber Eats also took part in the protest. What, you didn't know we had Uber Eats here? Download the app, or more likely, you have the app, just open it! Show the taxis what you think of them."

Has anyone used Uber recently in Cabo San Lucas? Are Uber drivers still being fined? We're making plans to stay at Playa Grande and would like to use Uber to go to Walmart.

Last February Uber drivers were protesting by clogging roads. There were probably 200 cars driving slow making it difficult to get around. We saw them in Cabo and San Jose.

What I find odd is that only commercial vehicles are allowed to pick people up at the departure area at the Cabo airport. I went to pick up our kids in the rental car and had to park in the paid public parking a block away. So if you want to pick some one up you need to pick them up at departures which is upstairs from arrivals.

I did notice that some people would walk to the mini market next to the airport to catch an Uber.

At the Villa del Arco, Uber wasn't allowed on the property. People using Uber had to walk past the resort gate.

It sounds like there is still conflict between Uber drivers and the Taxi drivers.

Yes, but no one is shooting each other in Cabo, lol. A taxi driver explained to us that many people now make enough money to finance a car by pooling their earnings or driving Uber. He had nothing bad to say about Uber.
