On our last visit to Marriott Waiohai, I took my kids and their friends to the Kauai Escape Room. If you are unfamiliar with escape rooms, it's essentially a 60 minute game where you must solve a series of puzzles to get out of the room(s) you are in. It's definitely a team effort, and is suitable for (I'd say) 14 and up. Adults would love this. The mainland has dozens of these rooms in every state, but this is the only one in the state of HI.
I've been to many escape rooms and this one was very fun. Currently they have just one room open - Curse of the Tiki Lounge. I loved the theme. All the puzzles had logical solutions. There was a definite storyline and it built to a very cool ending. One of the kids with us had never been to an escape room and he loved it. The others had been to such rooms and this was one of their favorites. The room is nicely air conditioned. Would have not been fun to do this in a full sweat. There is a good deal of searching for objects, moving from room to room, but nothing that requires climbing, crawling, etc. It would not be much fun for someone in a wheelchair or for small kids.
The puzzles can be difficult and an hour flies by, but you are constantly observed by a person in control of the room, and they offer as many clues as you need. The price is pretty typical for an escape room on the mainland and a great way to pass a couple of hours.
It's located in Lihue, pretty much across the street from the Lihue Museum. I don't recommend this for a party of 2. It may be fun, but you will never solve all the puzzles. The more people you have the better the chances of solving everything. 4-6 is the sweet spot.
We went in the dead of summer and were able to book a day ahead, so it's nowhere near as hard to book as, say the Tubing Adventure. Spots fill up quickly at the last minute.
When we visited, they had a second room open, and it was good, but not as good as Tiki. They are now turning that room into a different game, and adding a third room.
