I don't recall reading this elsewhere, but in the reply email after filling out the pre arrival questionnaire for our upcoming stay at Kauai Lagoons was this....

NOW OFFERING POOL PASSES TO THE KAUAI MARRIOTT RESORT AND BEACH CLUB! Enjoy Kauai Marriott Resort Pool facilities for one day during your ownership stay, complimentary!
*Exclusive offer for Marriott Vacation Club Owners*
-Limited space available
-Sign up in advance. First come, first serve.

Having never been to KL, or to KMRABC, is this a nice perk? Something new, or something they have always done? The email made it sound like it was perhaps new. Anyhow, just trying to gauge if its a nice enough perk to plot out a specific day and put in my request early. Looking at the hotel online...its looks like a pretty nice pool, but there is nothing like first hand TUGger knowledge.

Also, interestingly, I have booked this stay on DC points, and in the same email, where it discusses room placement, this was said....
...we will assign the best possible villa we have available in the villa view category already confirmed for you at the time of booking.

That seems consistent with a thread a while back (don't recall what resort it was for) where after further inquiry, a TUGger was told that points and weeks owners are treated equally at the top of the room placement ladder with the ressie booking time stamp being the tie breaker for room placement (based on availability on that particular check in date of course).

Anyhow, I found both peaces of info interesting.

Looking forward to our stay. First time on Kauai. Any restaurant recommendations, great hikes to try, don't miss things to do or see, great beach recommendation, etc, etc???

It’s been a few years but if I remember correctly, the pool is something new. Staying at KL didn’t give you access to KBC pool. It’s just much bigger and a little more resort style. The KL pool is more “hotel” style. It’s pretty small.

As far as food goes, if you like shrimp, go to Shrimp Station. Great coconut shrimp.

Amenities aren't shared between KL and KBC. Sounds like a 'new' benefit.

KL views are great, but its pool is much smaller with no food/drink service and no beach.

KBC pool is huge. Largest in Hawaii I think. Very nice. KBC has pool-side service (drinks, food, etc) and direct beach access (Kalapaki). KBC pool and amenities are not generally available to those staying at KL.

Recommended Activities: Take a catamaran ride around the Napili Coast (beautiful), drive and hike through Waimea Canyon (Grand Canyon-like), take a helicopter to view Mount Waialeale (wettest spot in the world), kayak to Wailua sacred waterfalls, drive to Kilauea Lighthouse, eat some fresh poi.

If you do Helicopter, I recommend mauna loa. It is a four seater, so if it is just two or three it is a private tour - no middle seat. Each person can decide doors on or off.
The office where you meet is in the small shopping center across the street from the one next to KBC, so you can walk there.
Also talk to Joey with activities. He is an incredible musician, so if you get a chance take the Ukulele lesson or just talk with him. He will tell you fun places to go.
If you have a car get the GyPSy app. It is a narrated tour of the island. Will tell you history and point to some small off the path beaches that are incredible. Also narrator is pretty funny when he talks about food (he will help you find shave ice and Saimin place).

A definite dining suggestion is the Beach House restaurant out near Poipu. Fabulous food, tremendous sunset views (reservations accepted). It will set you back a few bucks but it is a definite must do for us when on the island of Kauai.

Our favorite meal was at Dukes (upstairs). We also loved Captain Andy's Sunset Dinner Cruise around the Napali Coast... breathtakingly beautiful. And not to be missed: a doorless helicopter tour. We took Jack Harter's, which had a desk/office at KBC. Book the sunset cruise and helicopter tour early in your trip just in case there are weather issues, you'll have time to re-book. We found the golf course at Kauai Lagoons to be very nice.

We will be there in May and I am trying to decide on which building to request for our Island View. I know that only 1st and 2nd floors are island view. Did you request a certain building?

As of now, all open door tours are suspended per the faa. This is due to the crash in New York City that killed 5.

Shouldn't impact most Hawaii flights.
From FAA "It prohibits the use of supplemental passenger restraint systems that cannot be released quickly in an emergency in doors off flight operations. This order also prohibits passenger-carrying doors off flight operations unless the passengers are at all times properly secured using FAA approved restraints."
The ones that they use are FAA restraints. Of course check when you call as they may change rules again.

Perhaps this is a scheme to get you to a presentation? I know when we went in 2014 they offered day use at Waiohai or KBC if we did a tour at either of those locations. If it isn't, it must be new because I have never heard of it before.
