Looking for suggestions how to use our already reserved TS mid- May week to see some of natural wonders in AZ, NV and UT. This will be our first thip, but since we recently retired, not the last one. We will have a rental car, love hiking and have NP card.

Well you definitely need a car for Mesquite since there's not much there. It's going to be warm/hot so bring water everywhere you go! Depending on how much driving you want to do I have some suggestions...

NORTH

St George - plenty of hiking in that area, shopping and restaurants. We usually just stop there to fuel up and have lunch however.

Zion - Definitely worth a trip. Plan your visit though because you can't drive through the park and must plan on using the shuttle.

Cedar City - cute little town with a university. They host a Shakespeare festival that gets national attention.

Kanab - another cute little town where many old westerns were filmed. Visit Best Friends and take a tour!

You can drive a loop from Mesquite to St George to Cedar City to Kanab back to St George and then Mesquite. Make sure you plan out your directions ahead of time though because you may not have service for portions of the trip.

Bryce - so gorgeous! Highly recommend this!

Grand Canyon north rim - if you've never been then you kind of HAVE to go. It will be a drive so plan for it.

SOUTH

Valley of Fire - very pretty but fairly remote so pack a lunch if you plan to go here and hike. Both here and Zion be particularly careful of flash flooding.

Vegas - well, I'm sure you know what you can do

Red Rock - drive the loop, maybe do a hike or pose for pictures

We just returned from our week long trip to Mesquite, NV. We stayed at one bedroom TS Grand Destinations Vacation Club, RCI last call. Clean, quiete, but dated. Cassa Blaca casino across the street has several restaurants and very nice swimming pool. We flew to Las Vegas and put over 1200 miles on our rental car; visited Zion NP, Bryce Canyon NP, Valley of Fire NV State Park and Grand Canyon North Rim. All fabulous destination. We are already making plans for visiting next year.

At one time I owned a Week at the CasaBlanca which I used for 6 or 7 straight years. It was a first rate Resort. Great location for one (like me) attending the NASCAR races at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway as there was almost no traffic between Mesquite and the Speedway. My recollection is that MFs were very low. I bought my Week resale and had zero problems selling it for what I paid for it.

So you were able to visit all of those locations with day trips from the timeshare?

Yes, all trips were day trips. There was very little traffic, good roads and high speed limits. We would be at NP entrance around 9:30 -10 AM and leave around 3:30- 4 PM. We ate at magnificent NP lodges. Sometimes the time difference between NV, UT and AZ Indian reservations time worked to our advantage.
We will definitely return, but have to plan in advance to stay at least one night near Bryce to have a full day for hiking.

Well Jim, I have been TSharing for over 10 years now, but I am not a writer. I am a devoted reader..
TUG has been my resource not just for vacationing, but also for Medicare, Social security and second/retirement home purchase. All three of my TS were purchased on secondary market thanks to TUG encouragement.

Thanks for the great travel ideas. Tuggers are awesome.

Are any of these locations not ideal weather-wise for a late March/early April spring trip hikes and visits?

My daughter visited Bryce and Zion for spring break two years ago. They had good hiking weather, but she will never forget how cold was camping in tents. North Rim of Grand Canyon opens on May 15th. I am glad we waited, weather was good and North Rim spectacular.

A lot depends on the weather - snow can limit your options but we've had good luck that time of year. Another activity option for late March-early April would be skiing at Brianhead, but check when they plan to close for the season - typically early to mid April. No lift lines! We've stayed at Cedar Breaks Lodge in Brianhead that time of year and done Bryce and Zion as day trips.

Someday we're going to stay there in summer so we can actually see Cedar Breaks Nat. Monument - that road (UT 148) is typically closed till late May.
