We will be staying at the Mayflower soon. Any information would be greatly appreciated. We'll fly into DCA, and take public transit. I think I have that figured out. I am interested in resort info.

We love the Mayflower hotel though will be staying on the MVC floor for the first time in a month or so. The location is fantastic - plenty of great restaurants nearby, walking distance to many attractions, and steps from the Red line and about two blocks from the Blue/Orange/Silver. Starbucks and Peet's are nearby if you are unhappy with hotel coffee and there are frequently though not always refreshments in the lobby - coffee, infused water, cookies, etc.

What in particular did you want to know?

My wife is currently there. Below is some of the stuff they sent us in an email.

There are several delicious Restaurants close to the MayFlower like Irongate,The Tabard Inn and la Tomate.Once you arrive tomorrow you have plenty of time to see the city as the Smithsonian Museums are open to 530 and the Monuments are open until midnight. As I mentioned we are very excited to welcome you to one of the newest additions to the MVW experience, Marriot Vacation Club at The Mayflower. Marriott Vacation Club at The Mayflower, Washington, D.C. provides an elegant escape in the heart of the nation's capital with an incredible downtown location. Proudly listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the landmark Mayflower Hotel is frequently called the “Hotel of Presidents,” and described as setting the “standards by which the capital’s best hotels have been judged.” I have US Capital Tour tickets set aside for you every day which you can pick up at the Capital Visitor Center under my name. There are free shows every night this week celebrating JFK 100th Birthday at the Kennedy Center at 6pm. The Supreme Court Tour is each afternoon at 130 and 330pm and you can get tickets at their visitor center..The Old Ebbitt Grill is a DC landmark and great restaurant to take your family too.Another wonderful restaurant is Sequoia on the Georgetown Waterfront. The National Zoo is open daily 10am to 7pm and the Smithsonian Museums are open daily from 10AM to 530PM. I also wanted you to learn about the exciting new changes with the Pulse program at the Vacation Club. The Vacation club has added several new resorts and Vacation homes during the past few weeks.

The Mayflower location is great. You probably already know this, since it's a Pulse location, this is no kitchen.
There is a Segway tour location nearby. It's a lot of fun and a great way to cover the National mall in a short time.

Look up DC Circulator for a cheap way around the National Mall.

Is this booked through DC points or as an exchange? Hows the pricing compared to other area hotels?

Hi Darlene,

We stayed at the Mayflower last year. One major thing to keep in mind is not to expect anything like what you'd get at a full timeshare resort. It's a hotel room, period.

That said, it's a very nice hotel room in a very nice hotel, and the location is outstanding. The Mayflower sets aside one specific floor (I think it was the 8th) for Vacation Club reservations, with its own concierge desk. You'll be a block from a Metro stop, which is a good way to get around - it's worth looking at https://www.wmata.com/ to get information about routes and prices before you go. You'll also be less than a mile's walk from the Mall and the White House.

In addition to all the sit-down restaurants that are nearby, there's a place a block away and across the street called Paul. It's part of a French chain, that does good sandwiches and wonderful croissants and pastries. We had lunch there a couple of times.

Follow everyone's advice on public transportation. Go to the zoo. Check out some embassies. Go to the National Cathedral. Check out Eastern Market, U Street, and China Town. Some good museums that most people don't even know are there and free include the National Portrait Gallery and the Post Office Museum (next to Union Station). On other interesting thing to note is that some parts of DC are very, very busy on week days and empty on weekends. The newest attraction in DC is the Wharf. It is on the water in Southwest. Worth a trip.
