I have done cost comparisons of Marriott and DRI here before on Hawaii properties and DRI was more expensive. Just like Doug said, DRI is more expensive than MVC but does not have the same level of luxury or overall quality as Marriott.

Is 3.50 a point a good value for Hawaii Dri? Should I run or partake?

I only own in the Marriott Vacation Club and have legacy weeks, as well as Destination Points. In comparing the maintenance fee for each, the Destination Points cost me about 20% more in my situation. I own all Platinum Season weeks for my legacy. My most affordable are Ocean Pointe and Grande Chateau. Desert Springs 1 and Beach Place Towers are a little more cost, but still 15% less than my Destination Points .

DRI: The Point at Poipu, 3 deeded weeks, 1 of which is in The Club.

Run! You need 15,500 points to get a 2 bed ocean front at the Point at Poipu or Kaanapali Beach Club. You don't need to spend $54,250 to get points in the Hawaii Collection. Look for ads on TUG or Red Week for prices at a fraction of that.

You can get Diamond points for free on the resale market.

I also see two Point at Poipu 2BR/2BA deeded weeks being given away for free with closing costs also covered by Seller.

Why would you pay $10s of Thousands for what you might be able to get for free?

The problem with buying DRI Collection Points resell is that you can only use them at a DRI Hawaiian Collection Resort. It is am very small Collection (I think 6 or 7 Resorts) and only 2 of the Resorts are actually in Hawaii - KBC and Point at Poipu.
