Booked a one night points stay at RI a week ago Monday. 6 days later noticed the Marriott cc had been charged $41. and change. Was about to dispute with cc but decided to call the hotel first. Their response "don't know what happened and we've never seen anything like this. Along with the points you were charged for the room."

Considering I used points in lieu of the $175. room rate I tried to to negotiate the hotel keeping the $41. and returning the cat 2 points to me instead. In my dreams, right? Follow up email said the cc charge was being reversed.

It's a good thing you scrutinized your bill or you would've actually been charged twice. Everyone really needs to do this because there are so many examples of erroneous charges or nowadays illegal charges it is amazing. I bet many companies make 2-5% on examples of this that people, especially older people don't pick up on. How about the subscriptions that get you for an extra month or month if you're not on top of it.

You've been "Bonvoyed"! Everyone who books at a Marriott property using their points should check their credit card. Even though you receive a folio showing a zero balance when you check out, your credit card might be charged a few days later with some strange amount.

In my case it was $39.40 for a one night stay with an e-certificate at one property and $52.60 for a one night stay at a different property. Both in early April. Both charges eventually were reversed, but it took several (and in one case many) phone calls alerting the hotel that the credit had not been received.

One property was familiar with this "issue" and the other was clueless. The Marriott Rewards concierge was able to fix that one.

It seems that there is something amiss in the new system when a property "pulls" the e-certificate. It may be in 2 pieces (?) one for the hotel charge and one for the taxes and fees?

Yes, it is annoying for us, but it is also VERY annoying for the staff at the Marriott properties. Be patient, be kind but be persistent!

We had double charges on an Autograph collection resort back in Dec on 2 different credit cards because they were haven't problems and used the one we had on file with Marriott.com and the one presented at check in. This was a cash stay so over $1K each.

Wow, interesting that it wasn't an isolated case. My DH is convinced that the amount is the internal accounting value for the points room.

There are no parking or resort fees that would be applicable? You didn't arrive a day late for the reservation?

Actually, I think that he is right! It is something like that and no, it isn't supposed to be happening, but it's a glitch in the new software if they don't "push the right button".

No, it was just a boring one night stay using points (lifetime titanium status) at Residence Inn. Arrived at 6pm and had left by 7am the next morning. As someone else stated earlier, the automatic checkout statement came through and everything showed zero.

Your Autograph story is eye raising! Yikes.

I don't think this was an isolated incident. Something similar and weird happened to us this year. We made a rez at a Luxury Collection hotel in Europe last summer before the merger with Starwood. This was a points + cash rez for a stay in March. Marriott converted the cash amount to a number that was about 75% higher than the one we were supposed to pay and deducted the points from the account. It took 3 phone calls and hours on the phone with specialists to rectify the issue. They eventually got it right but it was a lot of time I'll never get back. Now I will always check my statements carefully. In fact, I check the reservations page often too because that is where I noticed it first.

I know there are sometimes hybrid "points + cash" options when reserving a room. I usually look at them and occasionally the discount in $ is worth the fewer points. In that instance, you should have a small charge when you check out.

Pretty odd though as the standard when searching for points is to book a room and use points.
