Hello,

We have a trip planned to Park City from Feb.28-Mar.8. We are staying at Wyndham Park City (just below the Canyons village).

We are going for the skiing and other outdoor activities.

Is there anything that is "not-to-be-missed", in your opinion.

Any information that can be provided would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

I enjoy visiting the Olympic Park that was built for the 2002 Winter Olympics. There is a small museum there as well as the possibility of watching athletes train. And if you are wanting to try out bobsledding, for a mere $175, you can accompany an athlete down the track.

I also enjoyed the small Park City museum that is in the very heart of downtown Park City. It is well done for the small space it occupies and you get a sense of the mining history of the area before it was developed into a ski resort.

We enjoyed going to the Olympic Stadium Park. You can take a tour of the park, there’s a small museum there, and while we were there some ski jumpers were practicing their jumps....amazing to watch!

If you don't have all your skiing booked at the Canyons, go for snowbird if you snowboard or Alta if you ski. If you are a real good skier Alta in little cottonwood canyon is a must. Today the mountains got dumped on, lots of snow this year in the mountains. If by chance we get a warming trend and PC gets slushy Alta won't be.

Check out our snow totals.....I live at the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon and I got almost 2 feet of snow, schools closed yesterday. The ski resorts around 50 inches the totals are great.

In Park City i like going to Squatters or Wasatch Brewery. If you are a beer drinker and like dark beer Wasatch Polygamy Porter is a real good beer.

Utah's ski resort snow total just got another bump, today and more to come this week. Utah's snow is light and fluffy. You picked a good year.

I am looking forward to it...I just hope the weather holds (it should...).

In my three (3) previous "Out West" ski vacations, I have rarely experienced "Out West" conditions...

Cheers!

Park City Mountain offers daily free 2 hour mountain tours - intermediate skier level or above. They don't do a good job of advertising them - make sure you track down the mountain host at the appropriate location a half hour or so before the tour start to sign up. These tours are a lot of fun, you end up doing a bunch of runs you might not have tried before and you learn about the mining history in the region. Here is what they have about them on the website:
Historic Mining Tour
Silver To Slopes
Unlock the secrets of the past and discover Park City’s rich mining, skiing and local history on the Silver to Slopes Historic Mining Tour.

On this free, guided, intermediate-level ski tour, you will explore the mountain with an expert guide and uncover the historic mining buildings and hidden relics scattered across the resort.

Learn how Park City Mountain evolved from a silver mining camp to an internationally recognized winter sports destination and hear the stories behind the authentic mining structures you see on the mountain.

Tours depart daily* from the Park City Mountain Village at 10:00am near the Eagle Statue and 1:00pm at the Trail Map near the top of Bonanza Express chairlift. After the tour, you’ll receive a signature pin to commemorate your visit to Park City.

At Canyons Village, we also offer a complimentary Mountain Experience tour that meets at the top of Red Pine Gondola at 10:00am and 1:00pm. This tour focuses on familiarizing the on-mountain terrain on the Canyons Village side.

Deer Valley also offers a twice daily mountain host tour - also well worth doing if you are going to be skiing over there.

I used to ski in PC when it was a little mining town. It was a cute little town. My dad's friends owned the C'Bon so I could ski for nothing and stay overnight. PC wasnt as crowded as Alta and Brighton and it was mostly locals. The road going back to SL could be a bit of a white knuckle on the snow days. Canyons wasnt even there. It was cheap. That was 50 years ago. When my kids were growing up, the canyons would give kids with a 3.5gpa a years pass for free, then they upped it to 99, still a good deal. So my kids were honor roll students. Later when my kids got older they wanted to ski at Alta and Snowbird, (we live at the mouth of cottonwood canyon) so I told them to get jobs up there. I was too cheap to pay for skiing, so they did. It was a good time to grow up in Utah.

I second the Homestead Crater in Midway, a small town about 45 minutes from Park City. Without difficulty, we found it. The resort is beautiful and in the summer months the restaurant has indoor/outdoor seating. The crater is an awesome experience. A newly constructed 110 foot tunnel gives access to the cave. Inside the cave is a pool of natural hot spring water at 90 degrees year round and crystal clear. Many use it to scuba dive, snorkel, swim or just relax in the mineral water. The Homestead Crater is the largest mineral dome in the area and is approximately 55 feet high and 400 feel in diameter at the base. This is a must do trip! Also Sundance Resort founded by Robert Redford in 1969. It sits in a small village at the base of Mt. Timpanogos. It was a beautiful drive getting there and even more beautiful leaving as we traveled the Alpine Loop Scenic Drive.
