I put in an ongoing search for a summer week with RCI. I usually don't answer my phone when caller ID comes up out of area, but this time I did.
A gentleman said he was from RCI ( immediately I regretted picking up the phone). But what he said surprised me. He said that he was working on my request for my summer exchange and that I would be getting my request. He further stated that I would be notified, probably with another phone call, within a week. That was two weeks ago. I have not heard from anyone since then and nothing on the website indicates that I have a confirmation. Then again, I have not been very available, phone wise, this past week and my husband will not answer the phone if it doesn't have an identified name or familiar phone number.

Does RCI really make phone calls with ongoing searches? I have done searches like this before, but recieved letters with the details-before it was even on the web site. Most searches I have ultimately cancelled because the vacation possiblities were filling up fast and reservations and cheap plane fare were getting harder to come by ( we are a family of 5). So ultimately I have planned vacations outside of my timeshare.

Has anyone else gotten a phone call like this?

Thanks for your info.

I have received phone calls from RCI when they find a match for my ongoing searches but they always tell me at the time what is available, never have they indicated I would be receiving another call at a later date with the details. It sounds strange to me.

I received lots of calls when I had a search in for Door county. Usually they just said they were still trying. Finally I got a call that I had matched my search. Never got a call that I "almost" had one though.

Usually the phone calls I get are "We have not made a match, would you like to try something else".

That phone call sounds really strange, not sure what it means though. Even tho RCI says they will call when a match is made, I've learned from experience to check your account page yourself everyday. (held/confirmed weeks ) A few years ago, when I had a search on for the following year, just before we left on vacation I decided to check on line one last time before we left, (as we were literally walking out the door), and boy am I glad I did! RCI had put a unit on hold for us, (but forgot to call ...), it was only on hold untill the next day. So if I hadn't seen that and called to confirm ... We would've been gone for a week and never known!!

RCI has a department that reviews searches periodically and contacts members to advise them that their search is still going on or that a unit has been picked up by the request.

They normally call every 30-60 days during a lengthy search. Some of these guides will give good advice about your search, and may offer encouragement based on their knowledge of the exchange system.

This sounds like such a call. The guide felt your search was reasonable and would match soon. Otherwise he may have suggested you modify the request to increase your chances of success.

Thanks for all of your info. I guess it isn't as weird as I thought! I have had ongoing searches in the past and have gotten the usual calls when I cancelled them or if my week was going to expire why I wasn't using it. I have gotten the old lecture about needing 2 yrs advance searches to get what I want etc... that was the first positive phone call I have even gotten.
