Yes I did talk to my husband and I told him while it’s a good program we def overpaid. Hopefully after some research I can find one that’s a great price! Thank you!Except it's sales division, HGVC treats all of their members, both developer and resale owners, well. Don't let the sales weasels put a bad taste in your mouth about the program. There's a reason why HGVC is one of the only timeshare systems that hold any value (just not even close to what you pay from the developer), it's very flexible and user friendly.
With that being said, I would suggest going over to the newbie forum and answer the questions on the survey. It's very helpful in deciding what to purchase.
Wow that’s a great price!! Will def have to do some research! I actually came upon your forum first and read the responses that’s what prompted me to think I got a bad deal as well! Def will check out eBay! Bay club is really nice! I’m still here on the big island and bay club is real close to me!Did the same thing you did and rescinded. You actually got a slightly “better” deal than me, I gave $16k for 3400 EOY Gold Season points. I did return the bag and books just to be safe. I had zero problems with the process.
I have been watching eBay and regularly see 7000 EOY platinums close for way less than $1/pt. I bid on a Bay Club last week that sold for $600. I would just ask advice on here about which eBay dealers are reputable. But yea, rescind and you will feel much better when you find a deal that works for you at a much lower price.

That’s def a good point. I do feel bad that my two kids became overtired (one infant and one toddler) and I lost an afternoon doing this. But you are right. I did learn a lot about HGVC and I do think it’s a great program but I def overpaid. I’m really glad I found this website! One more thing, I read your responses in this thread and I want to say don’t feel bad. You really did not waste your time in a way. You learned something about HGVC and based on what you heard you felt like it was a product you would use and enjoy. Nothing has changed with rescinding a bad deal, you probably still feel like it is something you are interested in. You will just find a much more cost effective solution and you will know more about what you are buying.
Also the sales person who talked me into doing this wasn’t even that good. She was actually bad and her pitch was weak. I was convinced by the product. So again you are no different than a lot of other people on here.

One quick question Brian_F - when you canceled did you get the full amount back? Or do they gice you a refund minus a fee or something? Sorry if this is a stupid question.Did the same thing you did and rescinded. You actually got a slightly “better” deal than me, I gave $16k for 3400 EOY Gold Season points. You will get all your money back and it may take up to 45 days, but usually you will have it in 2-3 weeks. One quick question Brian_F - when you canceled did you get the full amount back? Or do they gice you a refund minus a fee or something? Sorry if this is a stupid question.

I got all back, and one interesting point. I sent an email and they actually rescinded based on the email. I sent the email on Dec 31 and my credit card was refunded on the same day. My certified letter was not received for 2 weeks for some reason.

I would suggest doing both an email and a certified letter. The certified letter is what is listed in the directions for recession and they must be followed for them to be legally bound to recind. It doesn't matter when they receive the letter, but when it is postmarked by and a certified letter can be used as proof.
Yes, for sure. Did not mean to suggest not sending certified letter. I was just very surprised they rescinded and refunded based on the email. I attached the letter and the certified mail receipt showing post mark to the email so they knew it was coming.

Wow that’s amazing... I never knew about this... guess some ppl are tired of paying maintence fees!
Free timeshares were mentioned in this thread. This one was available recently. Platinum, EOY 3500 free. We gave thousands for gold season EOY so this reinforces the fact that we almost got hosed.

Will def join! This already saved me $14k! I just certified mailed the cancellation and I feel a weight has been lifted! Now I can enjoyed the rest of my vacation!@betty s
Check out the HGVC forum here on Tug. So much valuable information. It helped guide our purchase into the HGVC system. Through the different discussions, it help me come to a conclusion on what was best for us based on what we wanted. @GT75 has a great spreadsheet that lists the MF's at the various resorts and breaks down the MF's per point. It shows what are the hidden "gems" (great points per MF ratio) in the system.
I would also spend the $15 for a TUG membership. It gives you access to the Tug resort reviews. IMO, they are the best and most unbiased out there.
Amazing! Sent an email with a pic of the certified mail and cancellation letter and I already received an email confirming my cancellation! Thanks to all for the advice!Yes, for sure. It's not just the MFs. We get people on these boards weekly saying how they can't travel any more because of health or financial issues. Also, some people realize that they can rent for less than the MFs. Others change their vacationing preferences to things like cruises, road trips, camping, escorted tours, special interests group tours, etc. where, despite what a TS sales person might have said, owning a TS or belonging to some travel club cannot help you or save you money.
Others (I think I'm in this boat) feel they can get cheaper accommodations via AirBNB or motels/hotels and are more than willing to sacrifice the amenities of a TS in favour of a lower price at a motel or AirBNB accommodations.
As well, some people's availability to plan a vacation 10 months down the road is not there. And even if the MFs are very low and affordable, there are the other peripheral costs of traveling. There are air fare (you'll need to pay that to get to Hawaii), activities, gratuities, higher costs to feed the family on a per-week basis, possible car rental or whatever means you will need to get around, etc.
That's why here on TUG, we recommend that you do lots of research, perhaps six months or so, to really analyze your and your family's travel needs, preferences, and circumstances before accepting even a free TS. Perhaps even try renting from a current owner to see if timeshares are right for you Even if the cost to rent is a couple hundred above the MFs, that $200 might be worth it to save you from the headaches and expenses down the road if/when you feel that TSs are no longer right for you.
Original email to them was sent to them at 10:49am and I received a confirmation of cancellation email at 10:54! So amazing!
