What if I see a great exchange available but don't have enough points to book it? Not available through Extra Vacation or Last Call. Short of buying more points is there any way I can pick this up? I have some points left just not quite enough. My points are through WM/Wyndham.

You can rent points from Wyndham for $12/1,000 to deposit the number of points you need. You may also need to purchase housekeeping credits depending on what you have in your account.

It looks like RCI will let me process the exchange without enough points. It lets me go all the way up to paying the exchange fee without any kind of warning about not having enough points. Will they just cancel the reservation when they see there aren't enough points or do they charge for the needed points?

If you have points in your Wyndham account they will be transferred out to complete the balance due to RCI within a couple days of booking the exchange through RCI.

I've done this a couple times when on going searches hit.

I know RCI will pull points (and HK token) from my WM account for an exchange, but what if I don't have enough points at all? I seem to recall seeing something a while back about a cash charge and a penalty fee. Maybe that was just my imagination.

Does Worldmark rent out points if you don't have enough for a reservation internally. If they do that would probably be the same thing that happens for an RCI exchange.

Firepath:
There is no penalty - it's just a high price.
WorldMark will charge you the credits needed x $0.15/credit (this is called the FAX rate.)

What you should do instead, is "hold" the RCI reservation. You can keep it for about 48 hours.
Rent in some credits from another Owner. Credit transfers have taken less than 24 hours in recent weeks.
