Sorry I have never joined RCI but am looking at maybe buying a timeshare off of ebay that is on RCI points. I assume I have to be a member so I'm wondering how much it is to keep a points account each year? Also is 80000 points a good amount? If I go to my home resort I assume I do not have to pay additional exchange fees but how much are exchange fees? Can a person rent more RCI points anywhere?

TIA
Joan

RCI points memberships average around $115 a year if you buy in 2 or more year bundles. If you pay for one year at a time it is $124 per year.

If your unit has been converted to points you will have to reserve your weeek 13-12 months in advance otherwise most resorts autodeposit the unit into the points program if the owner doesn't pre-reserve the week. If you book your home week or another week at your resort 12-11 months in advance you pay a $50 exchange fee. If you wait until 11 months or less you pay the full exchange fee whether you are reserving your home week or somewhere else.

RCI rules prohibit renting points from other owners although you can give or receive points transfers from other owners (per RCI as long as you aren't paying them for them) You can rent extra points from RCI to make reservations up to a percentage of your annual allotment from RCI for 3 cents a point.

Not exactly. I own a floating week in points, weeks 20-38. On June 30 of this year, I booked June 23-30, 2018 and did not pay an exchange fee.

Just remember once you buy into a points system you are married to that system and its
fees unless what you own can be converted back to a weeks ownership.

I decided against getting involved with RCI points. I doubled my worldmark ownership to 20000 points last year since I book for friends/relatives. Now they are charging for guest fees so I'll help out friends less leaving me with the points. I figure if I really want something in RCI I will try and do an exchange on TUG.
