So, we are new to TS's and bought stupidly from the developer and were sold the salespitch. Anyways, we have what we have and are trying to make the best of it. We own 21,900 points and have a maint. fee of $657 every other year. So, the problem is we want to vacation the end of April but only 1 resort showed up as being available and they want a $50 housekeeping fee. So I went to book and then saw the RCI Exchange Fee of $79. What?? None of this was mentioned from the salesperson (or the yearly suscription fee!). So were would already be out $129.00. This is for a 1 bedroom with no kitchen on Cape Cod.
I went online and for the same resort I can get a townhouse unit for only $88/night with no housekeeping fee. So, it seems almost silly to use the 10,250 points they want from RCI (half my points!)for something that would only cost me $289 to begin with.

It seems RCI is only good for long 7 day vacations..we had hoped to vacation twice a year for a few days at a time so as not to take time off work. Any suggestions as to how best use our points and limit fees to get short vacations? Or should we just plan to have a long 7 day one?

Hi and welcome to TUG! :hi:

I will let the points experts talk about points, but one thing I see immediately is that it is very late to be planning an April vacation. Timesharing works best with advance planning and believe it or not, many of us make our exchanges and reservations at 12 mos. out, when we have the most choices. If you are very flexible, then last minute plans can work, but when you want something specific, advance planning is necessary.

Might even be a little late for Fall if you want high demand locations or the holiday weeks. Start thinking about Spring and Summer 2011.

On the other hand, if you are not bound by school schedules and can travel on short notice, you'll find some great deals last minute in RCI Points.
