Request list questions

I am a new owner and have submitted some long term request list entries. One request is for the summer of 2019, and two are for the exact same checkin dates in the spring of 2019 at 2 different resorts. Once I saw the online question about cancelling other requests, I left it blank on all 3 and decided to call Hyatt after creating the entries.

The service rep told me that it is an all or nothing thing - if you request cancellation, she said any hit marked with cancellation will remove ALL other requests. She said that you cannot tie 2 of the 3 together as I would like. Since I have requests for 2 different times, I did not want a hit in the spring of 2019 to cancel the request for the summer of 2019.

However, I am now concerned about the possibility of hitting both requests for spring of 2019. The rep said it does not work that way - but I am thinking that if I go until exactly 6 months out and some inventory opens up by default it is possible they happen right after midnight 6 months out?

Is this a valid concern? And if it happened, what are the odds they would cancel one of them without charge?

It can happen that both will be confirmed. All you can do is pay the fee to cancel the one that you want the least. It will cost you a little more, but at least you will get what you want. There's not much chance that they will refund the reservation fee, but it never hurts to try! We've paid the extra fees several times just to make sure that we get our preferred reservation.

Can't you make separate reservations for the two on the same date. As long as you have different reservation #s you can tie two together and do a different reservation for one that is on the same date.

If the spring reservation is filled first, which it should be - then can you modify the others later to cancel the rest when it fills one?

I do have separate requests for the same date but different resorts . Would one request with both resorts for the same date avoid the issue?

Well, I tried it an can see you cannot put in a single request list for multiple resorts.

I called Hyatt and now have 2 different opinions (yuck). This rep said the cancel option would only cancel requests with similar dates. The first rep said the cancel option would cancel ALL requests.

I would just place 3 separate requests and mark each "do not cancel others when filled". You can always cancel a booked request for any reason. But first you have to look at your point balance after each individual request would be filled. If you end up with the first two requests being filled at the same time, you must have sufficient points for that to happen. If not, only one will be filled.

As Max Goldman (Walter Matthau) said in the grumpy old men movies - Holy Moly ! You are a genius ! (and thanks for your site - I learned so much before I bought).

That strategy will absolutely work here. I bought an EOY 1300 point unit mostly for II studios and have some extra points to play with. The request for summer is less points than both spring requests so if I only leave enough points for both one of the spring requests and the summer request the other spring reservation would be short of points if they both hit.
