OK. Reading through this, I can only imagine how confused some readers may be in trying to follow this thread. I'm going to attempt to clear up how one earns SPG Starpoints while staying at a Vistana timeshare as an owner.
Starpoints received from Amex through use of SPG Amex card
I hope this helps.
Starpoints received from Amex through use of SPG Amex card
- Everything charged to the room/unit will receive two Starpoints per dollar (from Amex) when the folio is settled with an SPG Amex at check-out. If you pay with the SPG Amex card at the point-of-purchase, instead of charging to your room, you may receive only one Starpoint per dollar because the individual establishment (restaurant, pool service, spa) may not have a merchant code identifying it as an eligible establishment associated with Vistana/Starwood/Marriott.
- Typically you will only receive Starpoints (including Bonus Starpoints based on your elite level) for food and beverage (F&B) purchases. Spa charges, parking charges and taxes are excluded from earning Starpoints per the T&C of the SPG program. Many of the pool hut services, such as Aqualani, are not owned by Vistana so even though they allow room charges those charges do not earn Starpoints from Vistana. The same is true for some of the market (convenience store) purchases. Tours purchased through the concierge typically do not earn Starpoints from Vistana. Also remember that in some jurisdictions, such as Hawaii, Starpoints are not earned from Vistana on the purchase of alcoholic beverages included in your F&B charges due to state law. Now, with all of these exclusions should you still charge everything to your room? YES, because of the Starpoints received from Amex through use of SPG Amex card upon checkout!
I hope this helps.
