I know Wyndham has their "Discovery" program that allows you to experience being an owner without a long term commitment. At a cost just above what an owner pays for a few years.

Are there resorts/systems out that have similar programs?

HGVC has their VIP membership. I purchased that back in 2012 before I bought resale. It was about $1700 for 7000 points. When I purchased it was much more flexible than what you get today in that you could book multiple short stays. I stayed at three different resorts including one stay in which I booked two rooms (one was for family). Best part is that there was no booking fee for each reservation like regular HGVC owners have to pay so that alone was a few hundred dollars saved.

Worldmark and Diamond will both offer a certain number of points to use on a one time basis. Marriott and Vistana offer their trial program as a specific length stay (usually a week).

All are conditional on taking a sales presentation.
