Finally Uber is here. Vidanta does not officially allow guests to take Uber from the resort. You’ll see the sign at the taxi checkpoint that Vidanta does not endorse online car sharing thing. We took Uber twice from downtown PV to the resort with no problem. The rate is about 200 peso. Watch out Uber surcharge and fees in the app. Uber cars are better maintained than the PV taxi.

If you like seafood, try seafood soup at Epazote and Quinto. It is not fishy at all but rich in umami.

We took Almaverde free tour to visit the resort’s owned farm. At the end of the tour, we got free vegetables and fruits, enough to make two breakfasts and one lunch.

We talk to a lady at the GL Punta pool who attended the presentation and was offered 1-BR Residence Loft (this is the two-story Penthouse Loft in Tower 5). We’re surprised this is the same offer we got. Initial price was 160k, then down to 80k. We were not interested to upgrade and rejected the offer.

One interesting bribe for attending a presentation is getting GL bracelet when you do not stay at GL. Our presentation was started with usual scripted sales talk: "I am not in the sales and I normally do not do owners update.", "I am doing this owner update because so and so is not able to do the presentation", "I can't believe you have what you own for what you paid". The topic of unit assignment came up in the presentation which is prioritized to owners who spent the most money. Although I do not 100% trust sales people, they say many owners bought GL contracts to get prioritized with the unit assignment at GM or GB.

As you know, this is a high-pressured sales presentation. The sales person worked together with the manager who decided which unit to offer. When we said no to the offer, the manager became even more aggressive. They did not give up easily and kept asking which part of the deal that we did not like. At one point, I walked away from the table.

The sales person kept mentioning GL is PRC (Private Residence Club), not a timeshare like GB and GM. I’m not sure the difference; maybe someone can help me with this. They also say Vidanta does not have a hotel license so they cannot advertise rooms at travel agent web site, i.e. Expedia.

As they say, if the lips of a TS salesperson are moving...
As a recent post by Phyllis (Pittle, and creator of the term "Mayan World") attested, she upgraded from 6 MP/GM contracts to GL and still had to attend a presentation to get out of the worst GM room assignment one could possibly get.

RE : Uber vs Taxi access to Vidanta NV .
FYI - I was told that Gapsa Vallarta SA ( company that does the free inbound transportation ) is owned by the family that owns the PV taxi company .If so - the policy is unlikely to change .

RE: room priority . when Grupo Mayan was only Sea Garden , Mayan Palace and Grand Mayan - most owners had 6 month ARP ( the exception was Profile A - which required multiple weeks ownership
and had 1 year ARP ) . When brand were added ; Sales did use the longer ARP in GB & GL ( generally 1 year ) as a tool to convince owners to upgrade for better access .

Vidanta does have the Ocean Breeze name for “hotel rental “ of Sea Garden Units . I assume they have the documentation required by the Mexican Government .

Thanks for the information on the Almerverde tour . I did read the article in The Vidanta Traveller
a few months ago, but forgot about it .

We did not do the update tour, but had to talk to 3 different people in Grand Mayan management to get moved to a unit that was not right beside all the AC units. They did offer GL bracelets if we took the update. We still said no.

When they did let us move to the 3rd floor in a different building, we had to vacate our current room at 9AM and could not move into the other one at 3PM. That was weird and sort of wasted a day - we had to pack and unpack. When we have moved from one unit to another in years past, they let us put our hangup clothes on the bellman cart with other luggage & food on the cart and follow him to the next unit.
