VRI is charging me $89 for 3 year RCI points contract renewal. I don't really want this unit in RCI points (it was already points when I bought it resale) because I will always use my deeded underlying week every year and never use the points. It is a pain to remember to reserve my week 12 months in advance so it doesn't get deposited into points.'

If I don't pay the renewal will it automatically revert to my deeded fixed week or do I need to contact RCI? I have other RCI points weeks so I will still have access to RCI points. Any hep in how to get this week out of points would be appreciated.

PS If anyone has any reasons why I should keep it in points would love to hear those too.

I believe all resorts charge the $89 every three years fee to renew an RCI Points contract, not just VRI. (If you have an every-other-year contract, the $89 fee is paid every six years; for triennial weeks, it's every nine years.)

If you no longer want this unit in weeks, I would call VRI's RCI Points department and tell them that. Otherwise, they are likely to bill you the $89 and give you a hard time if you don't pay. I believe the number for VRI's RCI Points department is (949) 587-2299 ext. 2475.

As for whether you should keep this unit in RCI Points, I feel that VRI's Home Group is well worth having. However, if you book your home week every year, then you need an additional source of points in order to book any other weeks. Do you have anything that you could use in Points-for-deposit?

Easy and cheap to get out of RCI Points --- yes, just call VRI.

Bit more expensive to get back into RCI Points.

ANd I agree, the Home Group Resort advantage is good; but HOME RESORT and the $40 exchange fee is better. IMHO.

Good point -- if you have another source of RCI Points, Home Resort reservations can be a great deal, especially if you are only charged a $40 exchange fee (which I believe is the case as all VRI resorts.)

None of my points weeks charged this fee. I think vri tried to start charging this a few years ago and enough people protested that they removed it. I guess they are at it again. I believe someone reported that VRI wanted to charge it for the additional admin that goes along with short stays but they already do in the housekeeping charges and if they needed to pay to upgrade their reservation system they should have done it with the fee they collected to convert the weeks.

I searched for (and resurrected) this old thread after receiving my 2018 statement for Landmark Holiday Beach Resort (VRI) with the $89 RCI Points Admin fee.

I've owned this interval since 2013 (purchased resale in 2012) and this is this first time I've been charged the admin fee. I also own triennial VV@P (2011) and Grandview (2015) but have not yet been charged an admin fee for either of those.

I reserve my Landmark deeded week every year - 13 months in advance - but keep it in Points because of the VRI group benefits.
