Does anyone have their "finger on the pulse" of the Hawaii market? Our resort has said they will put the weeks on the market & give us 30% of the sale. Anyone know if this ever works out successfully for folks wanting to sell their timeshare?

A lot depends on the resort and the weeks you're trying to sell. Most timeshares have relatively little to no value. You might try comparing completed sales on eBay to get an idea of what your resort sells for. If you just want out, and there is nothing owing on the deed, then giving it away on Tug may be a valid option.

Tell us what the resort is and the week information, and I'm sure there are people here that can give you a pretty good idea of the value. Be prepared to hear it's worth nothing.

Also look on Redweek at your resort and what people are asking for it. If there are many listings, it's not likely that everyone is asking unrealistic prices. If there are very few listings, then I wouldn't trust any asking price.

Correction: Please don't post that info here, because it will be considered advertising and will be redacted.

Regarding your question: We love Kauai, but it has less demand than Oahu or Maui, and the resale value is less as well. The top resorts like Westin and Marriott have some resale value, but most of the mid-range resorts have to be given away.

For an honest assessment of the value - I'd contact a timeshare broker who deals with Hawaii resales. Here are a couple that are Tuggers:

Syed Sarmad (TUG user name Syed if you want to send him a pm) www.advantagevacation.com

Fred Messreni (TUG user name FredM if you want to send him a pm) www.timeshare-gallery.com

For a high value timeshare, I think a broker may be able to get you more money. For the low value/no value timeshares, you should try to give it away yourself on TUG, because the broker fees will probably exceed the resale value:

When we owned at Maui Hill I listed with the resort. About 9 months went by with no action, so I listed it here on the bargain forum and in a facebook buy/sell group for free and it was taken immediately. About 3 months later the resort contacted me with a offer on our (no longer) owner unit. I'm still kind of kicking myself.

I think the best source of information will be your resort. They will know if things are selling. If you have time, list with them. If you need to get rid of it immediately, list it here for a low price.
