1) Is there a vacation destination you wish to visit most of the time or on a regular basis? if so where?Disney every 3rd year or so.

2) Do you want to visit your home resort at least half the time, or do you want to trade more than half the time? No. we would not be at a home destination half the time

3) What are your 5 top trade destinations? In no order: 1 Colorado (during ski season). 2. Caribbean. 3. N.E. united states (Vermont, Maine, NH). 4. Hawaii. 5. Europe

4) How many people do you usually travel with - total, including yourself? 2 adults. 2 kids (8 and 3 years old)

5) Can you travel any time, or are you locked into the school schedule? fairly locked into school schedule

6) Can you make firm plans 12 or more mos. in advance? we can, but do not always do it.

7) Can you vacation for a full week at a time? Don't usually vacation for an entire week in the same place.

8) What level of accommodations do you prefer on a scale of 1 to 5 stars? 3 to 5 stars

9) How much can you afford to spend upfront, without financing? $10,000

10) How much can you afford to spend every year for a maintenance fee that will come due right after Christmas, and increase each year? $2,000

11) Are you a detail oriented planner? If I need to be.

12) Do you understand that once you buy a timeshare, it may be very difficult to sell or give away, and you are responsible for all fees, until you do? I do understand that most time timeshare will sell for much less than paid for if bought directly from the company.

I do not own a TS or vacation club yet but I believe it could be a way for me to same some money on my family vacations we take each year. not a financial investment just hopefully a reduction in the cost of accommodations and a step up in quality of accommodations.

I have researched the DVC company quite a bit and I liked their model, I am just not sure if I should buy a resale of DVC and trade the points to RCI a lot or buy into another company?

Thanks for any help.

Since you are really not too much into planning, except triennial Disney, that's what you should buy, (resale or from DVC)then rent last minute rentals here or Redweek, or Craigslist the off years.

I honestly don't see a resale TS in another system satisfying your wishlist.

Thanks for the advice. Are the DVC points easy to use on RCI, and is the availability any good on RCI when I would transfer the points into them?

You don't want to use expensive DVC points on RCI. Buy only the DVC you need for a triennial visit. You may do better just renting. R ent from Davids or other Disney owner portal and amortize the upfront cost you would pay for a triennial over the life of your Disney rentals. You can rent RCI via Tug or Redweek from owners.

In my opinion, Disney is waaay too expensive to deposit into RCI. Buy some 'lesser' TS system, like Wyndham which includes RCI membership at no extra cost, then either use in their system or deposit int RCI, but keep the triennial Disney for your own use.

probably a good plan. just buy a small amount of Disney points so I could bank them together every couple of years to get the Disney vacation. Buy points in another company for the other trips. sounds like a good plan, now just need to research the best company for that fit. thanks.
