The other day I fell into availability for next August at WM West Yellowstone. I grabbed it, because I could get it, and since it's at the 13-month mark, I had to take seven nights minimum.

Looking at the calendar, we aren't going to be using the last night. Can I give that back? If so, do I have to wait till inside the 10 month mark to do that?

If you made a 7 day reservation during red season, you can not make it into a shorter stay - period. You can try getting what you want (as a new reservation - perhaps from waitlist) within 10 months and cancel your original reservation.

Or, if you really fell lucky you can cancel and hope a waitlist doesn't grab anything and rebook if it doesn't (once you are within 10 months).

Ok. Thanks, JohnPaul. I figured there was a reason they required me to take seven nights, even though I tried to book only six. We talked about it, and will probably just extend the trip an extra day.

You could probably figure out a way to combine and drop ...if you were going somewhere else. But that really doesn't solve your problem.

Ah ha! You could also rent the extra day. But you'd have a HKT fee need to trust the renter. (FB waitlist is good for that)

You could make a 1 night reservation at the Worldmark Arrow Point (just east of Spokane) for your way home. By combining it with the 6 nights in W. Yellowstone, you would still have a 1 week grouped reservation thus meeting the rules, and allowing you to cancel your 7th night at yellowstone. That would cost you an extra housekeeping, however, but might be a nice stop.

Thanks, guys. I don't really mind the extra day at Yellowstone. It occurs to me this trip would be after I officially retire, (if I officially retire at the end of July, as is my plan. Cross your fingers! ) So my time will be free by then. Spouse will be the one who'd need to take an extra day off. We'll see how it works out.
