Yes I know it's a tragic regular occurrence, on average about 37 kids die each year from this. It's one of the many things that kill kids, just like furniture tip-overs and backovers. I was just surprised it happened at a Vegas timeshare we're all familiar with.

FYI, furniture tip-overs are a very real danger and something we should ask our timeshare HOAs to try to prevent. Furniture (including TVs) kill about the half as many children each year as heat-related deaths of children trapped in cars :(

And backovers are a real danger too. "In the U.S. at least fifty children are being backed over by vehicles EVERY week." On average, two die each week. That's way more than how many die from being trapped in a hot car.

Of course, the leading causes of death for young children are auto-accidents and drowning. But we should take all the causes of PREVENTABLE deaths very seriously.

Infant Found Dead in SUV After Grandmother Left Girl Inside All Day, Police Say
By Nicole Chavez/ CNN/ US/ cnn.com

"(CNN)A 4-month-old girl was found dead in Oklahoma after she was left inside an SUV for most of the day, the Oklahoma County sheriff's office said.

The child's grandmother thought she had dropped off the girl at a day care in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area Friday morning on her way to work, said Mark Opgrande, a spokesman with the Oklahoma County sheriff's office.
The woman, who had custody of the girl, went to pick up her granddaughter around 5 p.m., prompting day care workers to look for the child inside the facility. They couldn't find her, and later discovered her deceased in a car child seat inside her grandmother's SUV, Opgrande told CNN affiliate KFOR...."

Another sad story - happens way too often.
