I will be staying at the Marriott BeachPlace towers from May 7th to 14th. I'm not very familiar with the area so I just wanted to see if anybody had any suggestions for things to do in the area, besides the obvious laying on the beach thing :D

Restaurant suggestions would also be helpful, both for fine dining places and for casual places that have great food. Also, any suggestions for restaurants with great views?

Here are some food recommendations:

Cafe Mortorano's, fine Italian dining

Noodles Panini, casual Italian on Las Olas

Big City Eats, continental on Las Olas

Casablanca Cafe, right on AIA, great pesto chicken sandwich

Shooters, on the intracoastal for drinks

Houstons, on the intracoastal, best ribs anywhere, plus steak and seafood

Padrino's, decent Cuban food (it's better in Miami, just can't remember the names of the best restaurants)

Sweet Tomatos, great salad bar

If you want to venture outside of Fort Lauderdale:

New York Prime: in Boca, my favorite steak restaurant in the world

Stir Crazy: Boca Town Center, great high end stir fry and Asian Fusion

Silvana: In Boca, best Mexican (high end) food I've had in the entire East Coast

Max's Grille, Mizner Park in Boca, great for people watching (discover the famous "Boca Babe")

Uncle Tai's, great Chinese food in Boca (adjusted for NY palate)

Maxwell's Chophouse, another great steakhouse in Boca with terrific setting

Kansai, in Boca, great Japanese food and Sushi.

Byblos, in Boca, hole in the wall Greek food, I go there every week.

Louie, Louie, Too, great casual Italian bistro in Delray Beach

Busch, in DelRay Beach, Great Seafood

Boston's, in DelRay Beach, great location on the beach, food is so-so, but views are spectacular

Two George's, in Boyton Beach, great outdoor setting, decent bar and grill type food

Miss Saigon: Coral Gables, casual and best Vietnamese noodles in Florida

Hans and Franz: Coral Gables, Great German pub, excellent bratwurst and mustard

Joe's Stone Crab, Miami Beach

China Grill, Miami Beach, high end Asian Fusion

Ortanique, Coral Gables on the miracle mile right next to the theatre, awesome Latin Fusion.

Gordon Biersch, great pub and sports bar, must have garlic fries.

Scotti's in Coconut Grove. The BEST Mahi Mahi sandwich anywhere.

We were at the Merriweather last week. La Bamba's-Spanish & Mexican food- on N. Federal is very good. Crowded on Friday nights. Big Louie's Pizza on Sunrise is excellent. Pizza is delicious & very reasonable. Sawgrass Mills Mall(Sunrise Dr. near I-75, I believe) is huge. Rainforest Cafe is located there at one of the entrances to the Mall.
If you are interested on going on an air boat, go to the Sawgrass Recreation Park, 1005 N Hwy. 27, Ft. Lauderdale, phone # 954 389 0202. Tickets are $22.50 for an adult for an air boat tour(30 minutes). If you are a FL resident, go back into office after tour and get a pass for free air boat rides for a year. Enjoy!

A Tugger after my own heart. Why pay $15,000 - $20,000 for a Marriott Beach Place when you can buy at the Merriweather or Silver Seas for between $1,000 - $2,500 depending on unit size and week. Same beach, same bars, same restaurants, same shopping, free parking, etc. And by the way an annual MF about 50% of Beach Place.

Thanks for all the great info! We definitely plan to head down to Miami for at least one day. My girlfriend simply won't allow us to be that close to the Rusty Pelican and not have dinner there!

I really wish there were more timeshare options in Miami Beach!!!

When we checked on a two week one bedroom sleep six at the Silver Seas (two years ago)...the maint fees and taxes were just under $700 per week.

MBP is just about $1000 a week (2 bed 2 bath sleep 8 tight), but most lock out for two weeks. And parking for all but first week owners IS $12.00 a day.

I think most T/S in Fl have high maint fees...maybe due to insurance & taxes.
