Just back from very enjoyable week at Harbor Ridge. Here are a few items that I haven't seen mentioned about the resort and area.
They were in the process of installing wireless internet throughout the facility, but it wasn't going well so I got to use the hotspot in the club house for free. Once it is running, it will cost $5 for 30 minutes, $10 for 2 hours or $20 for the week.
We did a 2 hour cruise on LuluLobsterBoat. An real lobster boat with a guide who switched over to tourism from being a lobsterman. He gave us a detailed explanation of lobsters and traps and also took us to where some harbor seals were sunning themselves. Well worth the $25 a person.
If you want to cook your own lobster, Parsons Lobster on 233 is very reasonable - $6 a pound for new shell lobsters. (Beals Lobster Pound in SW Harbor wanted $8/lb for them). The owner is the sister of one of the lobster men. Also had excellent blueberry pies available.
Speaking of blueberries, this is a prime time of year for wild blueberries in Maine. Best price we saw was $4.50 a quart at a roadside stand.
For us breakfast people, Maddy's Cafe in SW Harbor had incredible blueberry pancakes - 3 plate size ones loaded with wild blueberries for under $5. Even better, on the day we left, they were also offering triple berry (wild blueberries, red raspberry, and cranberry) pancake for just slightly more.
If you you like barbecue, the Knox Road Grille at the Atlantic Brewing Company has some excellent ribs and pulled pork at very reasonable prices. Very little advertising, and it doesn't seem to be listed in most of the restaurant guides. A nice break from lobster
