Hi there,

We are interested in buying a timeshare for our family but new to the process. We like the idea of ts ownership but its a bit confusing. We are a family of four with two young daughters.

Are there certain timeshare companies that are better than others that we should look at? And are there some that you would warn us against?

Before you consider purchasing you need to think about the following.
(Definitely do more research on TUG before anything)

- How do you plan on using your ts
- How do you like to travel (set time/place every year or need flexibility?)
- Look at some of the large TS trading companies to see which resorts are offered in the places you want to vacation (www.rci.com or www.intervalworld.com)
- Then decide on what you want to purchase (the big names are Sheraton, Marriott, Hyatt, Hilton, Wyndam, Worldmark, Bluegreen, RCI points to name a few)
- Decide how much you want to spend on initial purchase and how much you want to pay in Maintenance Fees per year.
- Then purchase from these places (www.holidaygroup.com, gmac timeshare resales, ebay, tug, redweek.com) and verify with the closing company the specifics...

Do not be in a hurry to buy. And when you do, buy resale from eBay or a reputable resale company (and TUG can advise you on that). Timesharing is a great way to travel but it may not be the best way, or the only way, for you. For example, it is the opposite of camping, but some camping trips are priceless.
So visit us daily (the addiction will set in shortly) and learn what you can. Ask questions. We'll be happy to help.
