Yesterday I had a luncheon followed by cards with a group of ladies at the club. I came out to find that someone had backed into my car, causing right rear end damage. No note was left. Went back into the club, none of the staff witnessed it nor was there a report to them.
I called my insurer and opened a claim. I got estimates from 3 body shops, two of them came in at about $1.8K, a third one said that he believed there was damage to metal parts that were not exposed and refused to give a "worst case" scenario estimate. His "cosmetics" estimates came in at $2.4K. We picked one of the other two body shops. I have a $1K deductible and we decide to suck it up. I told the insurer to put the claim on hold and after the repair is done and if the amount does not blow up from there, we will close the claim.
One body shop estimator said "Wow, only 7K miles on the car and it is practically new." Yes, it hurts.
We just sold our second car 2 weeks ago and used the money to buy a golf cart. Car goes into the body shop on Monday and we will also have to pay for a rental car for 5 days while in the workshop.
I am pissed but there is nothing I can do about it.
