Wow! That is very cool, Yvonne, and congratulations! That's a nice write up, too. I would've loved to see your competitors' faces when you showed up to compete in the men's scratch leagues in the 1970's!
Thanks! Yes it was quite the buzz. Ironically in the late 80's at Bowl America Burke it was especially funny. I was bowling in a Tuesday night mixed league with my then hubby (who was a PBA regional player). He started bowling pot games on Sunday afternoons at BA Burke. One weekend, I decide I was going to bowl too. They started, but I went to the practice pair to warm up. One of the guys "in the games" said to one of the other guys from our Tuesday league "hey look, there's a lady bowling on our pair over there. Who the F does she think she is?"
The other guy responded "Wait until you see who the F she is!"
I went in the next game . . . won a couple of games (of about five) and cleared over $100 for the day. I became a fixture there with my hubby for a few years, plus the pot games on Thursday nights after our summer league. That was what led to the legend of "the second paycheck" at Burke.
