How to verify a Timeshare rental is Legit (when you are the renter)

How to confirm that a rental is legit: First step - ALWAYS ask if they are renting an exchange. RCI* and II do not allow exchanges to be rented, and if you get caught, you can lose the rental and your $$$. You can tell if it is an exchange, when they send you a copy of their confirmation...

Be very careful. There have been situations where people produced fake confirmations. Verify the reservation on Marriott.com before providing payment. Also be wary of newbie or very low post count guests in the forum that registered recently. Look at their posting history on TUG.

I still don't see availability at Grande Vista for the 29th. There is availability on the 30th.

The only availability for 29th I see is a 1 bedroom deluxe at Lakeshore Reserve.

From @SuperBennett 's profile it seems he registered March of this year, has 9 posts all to try and rent and is a guest. Good suggestions from @dioxide45 to look out for. He also has no profile regarding what he owns but I guess that is less of a red flag.
